Mother Blanket

Idea

In the Ecuadorian Andes, cultural beliefs and limited access to healthcare led many mothers to believe a chubby baby was a healthy baby. But chronic malnutrition isn't measured by weight, it's measured by growth. So we turned the traditional “Sikinchi” baby blanket into a pediatric screening tool by adding the WHO Length-for-Age growth chart, helping mothers detect the condition early.

Results

Identified 15,000+ cases of chronic malnutrition within the first 3 months • Increased pediatric checkups by 70% in targeted Andean communities • 15+ international awards, including Cannes Lions, The One Show, Clio, Clio Health, and London International Awards • Featured in the 2021 Cannes Lions Creativity Report (Health & Wellness) and the 2022 Ogilvy Behavioural Science Annual.
